Connect Soon to ChatGPT
This adds Soon to ChatGPT so you can ask about your schedule and make changes.
Before you start
- A Soon account you can sign in to.
- A ChatGPT account on a plan with developer mode available, such as Pro or Business. It is not available on the free plan.
You connect as yourself, so the assistant sees exactly what you see in Soon and nothing more. Your permissions carry over: if you cannot edit a board in Soon, the assistant cannot edit it either.
Steps
ChatGPT calls these plugins. Other tools call the same thing a connector. If you have read our other guides, it is the same setup under a different name.
- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings.
- Under Advanced, turn on Developer mode.
- Go to Plugins and select New Plugin.
- Name it Soon.
- Leave Connection set to Server URL, and paste this address:
https://mcp.soon.works/mcp
- Set Authentication to OAuth.
- Tick I understand and want to continue. The Create button stays greyed out until you do.
- Select Create. A Soon sign-in page opens. Sign in and approve.
In a new chat you may need to enable Soon for that conversation from the tools or apps menu.
Check that it worked
Ask the assistant:
What is on my schedule this week?
You should get your own shifts back. If you are a planner, try "Who is working on Friday?" as well. If the assistant says it has no Soon tools available, the connection did not complete. See the troubleshooting section below.
What you can ask for
Once connected, you can ask in plain language. For example:
- "What am I working this week?"
- "Who is available to cover Friday evening?"
- "Request leave for the 12th to the 16th."
- "Move Jackson off Saturday and put Ada on instead."
Soon marks every action that changes the schedule as destructive, so your assistant asks before running one. That prompt comes from the assistant rather than from Soon, so only connect assistants you trust.
Turn it off
Go to Settings > Plugins, open Soon, and delete it.
Troubleshooting
The Create button is greyed out
You need to tick I understand and want to continue first. ChatGPT requires it for any MCP server it has not reviewed itself.
Soon does not appear in the chat
Plugins added in developer mode sometimes need to be switched on per conversation. Start a new chat and check the tools or apps menu for Soon.
The sign-in window never appears, or nothing happens
Some clients cache an old connection under the same name. Remove the Soon entry, then add it again. If you connected to a test or development URL previously, remove that entry first: reusing the same name can send you to the wrong sign-in page.
The assistant says it cannot see a board
The connection carries your own Soon permissions. If a board is missing, check in Soon that you have access to it. Ask your team owner to add you if not.
Still stuck
Contact us at support@soon.works and tell us which app you are connecting from. Include any error message you see.
